An Interview With Advait Ruia
Hiya,
This is the third in my series of interviews about the future of CIAM from experts in the space.
Advait Ruia is the co-founder and CEO of SuperTokens. SuperTokens provides open source user authentication.
I’m excited to hear Advait’s views on CIAM, identity and more.
Dan: What problems do you see customer identity and access management (CIAM) solving for your customers?
Advait: Customers want to be able to focus on their core product offering and parts of their service that differentiate them.
CIAM is important but standardized infrastructure and a solution like SuperTokens enables them to save time and delegate security.
Dan: What are major challenges you see with CIAM (in the industry, in implementation, etc)?
Advait: Customers lose control over a big part of their core infrastructure when they choose a solution.
They give up control over the data, the user flows and are subject to arbitrary pricing.
Dan: What excites you about the future of CIAM? Any predictions?
Advait: I think it would be exciting if I as a customer, did not have to re-authenticate on every product individually.
All those accounts are silos - with no reputation or information sharing. I see certain vendors that are working towards working towards building a unified identity layer for the internet.
Thanks again to Advait for sharing his perspective, and thanks to you for reading!
